If you want a full-size golf course close to Las Palmas without heading to the resorts in southern Gran Canaria, El Cortijo Club de Campo is one of the most practical choices. Located near Telde and the GC-1 motorway, it is only a short drive from the capital.
The course offers 18 holes and plays to par 72. Its landscape includes hundreds of mature palm trees and several lakes, giving it a much greener character than you might expect when driving through some of Gran Canaria’s drier terrain.
A proper round close to the city
The main advantage of El Cortijo for a Las Palmas visitor is simple: you can play a conventional full round without turning the day into a long excursion.
Gran Canaria’s tourism authorities describe the course as being around six kilometres from Las Palmas. Alongside the 18-hole course there are practice facilities including a driving range, chipping green, putting green and practice bunker.
That makes it relevant both for visitors looking for a holiday round and golfers who want some practice during a longer stay.
Palm trees, lakes and variety
El Cortijo is associated with more than 600 mature palm trees and six lakes. Water and vegetation help give the course a character of its own, while also adding obvious strategic questions to a round.
I would choose El Cortijo over an urban short course when I wanted golf to be one of the main activities of the day rather than simply fitting in a quick game between sightseeing.
Convenient from Las Palmas and the airport
The location close to the GC-1 is particularly useful. From Las Palmas you head south towards Telde, while Gran Canaria Airport lies farther along the same general transport corridor.
That opens up some useful possibilities. Golfers with a late flight might plan a final round south of the city before continuing towards the airport, although you should obviously allow generous time and think carefully about luggage and club storage.
For a normal golf day from Las Palmas, a rental car is easiest. A taxi is also realistic, particularly when two or more golfers share the journey.
El Cortijo or Bandama?
If you only have time for one round near Las Palmas, the choice is interesting. Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas at Bandama has the stronger historical story and the dramatic volcanic setting. El Cortijo offers convenient full-length golf close to the GC-1 and is particularly easy to incorporate into travel around the eastern side of the island.
I would not describe one as the automatic choice for everyone. Look at both courses, consider where you are staying and decide whether history and landscape or straightforward location matters more to you.
Plan before you arrive
Golf arrangements are one part of a holiday where I would not rely on turning up spontaneously. Check visitor access, available tee times, handicap requirements, current green fees and equipment rental before leaving Las Palmas.
Gran Canaria is a year-round golf destination, and popular times can become busy. Booking also gives you a chance to ask about course conditions and any temporary restrictions.
Worth playing?
El Cortijo is particularly useful because it expands the golf possibilities for a Las Palmas city break. You do not have to stay in Maspalomas or Meloneras to enjoy a proper 18-hole round.
Spend the morning or afternoon on the course and you can still be back in Las Palmas for dinner. For many travelling golfers, that balance between sport and city life is exactly the point.
