Travellers who prefer history, architecture and city atmosphere may want to stay further south around Vegueta or Triana.
Vegueta is the oldest district in Las Palmas and the place where the city began in the 15th century. Cobbled streets, historic mansions, churches and small squares make this one of the most attractive areas to explore on foot. The Cathedral of Santa Ana, Casa de Colón and Museo Canario are all found here.
Immediately alongside Vegueta is Triana, one of the traditional commercial centres of Las Palmas. Calle Triana is a busy pedestrian shopping street surrounded by elegant historic buildings, restaurants, cafés and cultural venues.
Staying here puts you close to many of the city’s cultural attractions and some of its most atmospheric evening streets.
The compromise is that Las Canteras is no longer outside your hotel door. Fortunately, public buses and taxis make travelling between the historic centre and the beach straightforward, so it is perfectly possible to divide your time between both parts of the city.
